    Fibreglass, raw 750 × 750 × 750 mm

The Cubed Chair 01 emerges from Tops' ongoing investigation into geometric form and material honesty. A quarter-sphere is subtracted from a solid cube—the minimum intervention needed to make the object functional. Raw fibreglass is left untreated, its surface bearing the texture of its construction. The cube remains dominant and the body is accommodated.

    Vegetable-tanned leather, timber substrate 720 × 720 × 720 mm

The Cubed Chair 02 follows the same geometric logic as the Cubed series, a timber substrate with a quarter-sphere subtraction, here wrapped entirely in hand-stitched vegetable-tanned leather. This iteration was made for Low Key, an exhibition presented by Fiona Lynch Office during Melbourne Design Week 2025, celebrating material-focused and locally made work. The leather is heat-treated to achieve a deep blue-black finish with visible tonal variation across the surface, a result of the dyeing process rather than applied colour. The form is consistent across the series; the leather finish makes each piece distinct. Custom colourways available from the studio palette, enquire directly.

Soloist Series

Vegetable-tanned leather, timber substrate, farmers wool 400 × 300 × 450 mm approx (dimensions variable, no two pieces alike)

The Soloist Stool is a timber form wrapped in hand-dyed, hand-stitched vegetable-tanned leather. A rectangular slot is cut through the base block, and a T-shaped stem rises from it to meet a stuffed leather seat filled with farmers wool. The negative space created by the slot is integral to the form rather than incidental. The leather is applied and stitched to follow the geometry of the piece, darkening and softening with use over time. Each stool is made individually and will differ slightly in dimension and character. Custom colourways available, enquire directly.

    Vegetable-tanned leather, timber substrate 1100 × 480 × 420 mm (approx, dimensions variable)

The Soloist Low Table is a sculptural timber form wrapped in hand-stitched vegetable-tanned leather. The construction reads as two distinct geometric elements held together by a rectangular slot joint: a vertical trapezoidal leg and a quarter-circle base support the horizontal bench seat. The leather is applied over the full form, unifying the assembly under a single continuous surface. Available in raw or dyed leather, the piece will develop a patina with use and age. Dimensions vary slightly between pieces. Custom colourways are available from the studio palette, enquire directly.

Dromen Series

    Blackened steel, vegetable-tanned leather, farmers wool 1800 × 340 × 450 mm

The Dromen Bench pairs a blackened folded steel frame with a waxed finish against a large leather bolster form that sits within the negative space of the base. The bolster is made from Anneline leather, hand-stitched and filled with farmers wool, and pushes against the steel enclosure with a deliberate tension between the two materials. The steel is hard, flat and precise; the leather form is full and unrestrained. This contrast between soft and hard, light and dark, is central to the Dromen series, which takes its name from the Dutch word for 'to dream' and continues Tops' investigation into how opposing materials can be held together in a single functional object.

Dromen [droːmə(n)] meaning ‘to dream explores forms which subtly shift from soft to hard, and the palette from light to dark and pays homage to Studio Tops’ ongoing exploration of materiality and functionality.
The Dromen Wall Light is a fibreglass form cast with loose cane embedded in the substrate, giving the surface texture and allowing light to pass through with variation across the panel. The faceted front face is bevelled at the edges, directing the glow inward and forward. Available in raw (natural) or blackened fibreglass. The black version functions as an object when unlit; the raw version becomes luminous. Supplied with an external dimmable driver at 2700k as standard. Custom colour temperatures available on request. Wall mounted installation, wiring by licensed electrician required.

Chrysalis Series

Kangaroo vellum, leather, blackened steel, stone Dimensions variable

The Chrysalis Light is a floor lamp built around a blackened steel rod anchored in a raw stone base. From a horizontal crossbar, two forms hang in counterbalance: a kangaroo vellum shade, hand-stitched from irregular panels that diffuse light softly through the translucent skin, and a stuffed leather form in blackened leather that acts as a weighted counterpoint. No two pieces are alike given the nature of the materials and the variability of the stone base. The vellum will shift in tone as it ages. A working lamp and a sculptural object in equal measure.

Platform Series

  • Blackened steel, leather, stone Dimensions variable

The Platform Bench is a collaboration between Studio Tops and Beau Emmett, pairing a blackened steel seat with a raw stone base. The steel component is a folded L-form with a leather-upholstered seat pad, precise and industrial in finish. It rests on an unworked stone selected for its mass and stability. The two elements meet at a single point of contact, the steel appearing to balance on the rock. Each piece is unique to its stone. Dimensions vary accordingly.
